The Golden Knights baseball squad has stepped away from GCAA action this week. On Thursday, WGTC traveled to Wadley, Ala., and a matchup with Southern Union. WGTC found runs scarce against the Bison, losing by scores of 8-1 and 11-1.
On Saturday, WGTC traveled to Montgomery and a doubleheader with Faulkner JV. The Golden Knights jumped out to an 8-2 lead after two innings and cruised to a 13-3 win in five innings.
Game two had more drama. Faulkner opened with a four-run first and led 5-2 after five innings. WGTC battled back, scoring four runs in the sixth and another run in the seventh to take a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
The Eagles responded with two runs to send it to extra frames at 7-7. In the eighth inning, Reagan Thomas singled in Paul Roth and Aaron Gonzalez to take a 9-7 lead. Richard Triplet shut down Faulkner in the bottom of the inning to save it for Kenny Bailey.
The Golden Knights remain out of league play on Tuesday when they travel to Cleveland State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. On April 28, WGTC will return to GCAA when they travel to East Georgia.
