Men Set to Open Defense of GCAA Championship

Carrollton, GA – The season begins now.  When quizzed about this year's team, Coach Niki Okolovitch was clear, "Our goal is to win another championship and make a run at a NJCAA National Championship Tournament bid."  The Golden Knights, winners of four of the last six GCAA Division III Championships, are gunning to make it five of seven.  That quest begins Wednesday night with a home match-up against Oxford College of Emory and will continue on Saturday at Southern Crescent Tech.

The going will not be easy. After opening 2-8, the Eagles have won 5 in a row and 6 of its last 7 to improve to 8-9 overall.  Wednesday is their conference opener as well and, like the Golden Knights, have their sight set on a conference championship as well.

West Georgia Tech, comes into the contest 6-9 overall, with many Division I opponents.  Weather has wreaked havoc with the schedule, resulting in two games being postponed.  As a result, Coach Okolovitch's squad has played only two games since breaking for Christmas December 18. The Knights are coming off a 69-54 loss Saturday at Central Georgia Technical College.

Sophomores Joe Boyer and Antonio Smith continue to pace the Golden Knights.  Boyer (Douglasville – New Manchester) leads the team in scoring with over 16 a game to go along with just under 7 rebounds and over 3 assist per game.  Smith (Covington – Newton County) puts up a double-double with 12.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Tip is set for Wednesday at 7:30 at Oak Mountain Academy in Carrollton.  Saturday's match-up with Southern Crescent is scheduled for 5:00.
