Carrollton, GA – After sprinting out to a 4-1 start, the West Georgia Tech basketball team has cooled over the last week, dropping 3 games to Division 1 competition, evening its record at 4-4.
Coach Niki Okolovitch cannot be overly disappointed in his young team. After dropping a 96-72 decision at Gordon on November 28, the Knights stayed on the road with a contest at Central Georgia Tech which is off to an impressive 7-2 start. The Knights led 34-25 at the half only to see the Titans battle back to force overtime at 65-65. In the extra period, Central Georgia outscored West Georgia Tech 9-1 to claim a hard-fought 74-66 win.
On December 3, the Knights returned home to face rival Southern Crescent. Once again, the Knights opened quickly, building a 35-25 halftime advantage. However, the Tigers caught fire in the second half to win 75-66.
Sophomore Kameron Hickey (Acworth – Etowah High) is leading West Georgia Tech with 14.5 ppg. He is followed by freshmen Juwan Johnson (Covington – Newton High) and Bevon Wray (Atlanta – Union Grove) with 12.8 and 10.3 ppg respectively.
Next up for the Knights is another road contest at Southern Union on December 8. Tip is set for 3 pm eastern time in Wadley, AL. On December 15, West Georgia Tech will travel to Georgia Northwestern Tech for a 1 pm contest. The Knights will close out the 2018 portion of the schedule with a 7 pm home date against Bevill State Community College.
