Women's Basketball Looks to Get on Track
Mitchell Named GCAA Player of the Week
Carrollton, GA – While the record is probably not what Coach Alford Williams would like, the West Georgia Tech women's basketball team is still looking to win the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Division III Championship. Playing a Division I laden schedule, the Golden Knights are currently 2-14 on the year. The challenging schedule will hopefully pay dividends Saturday when they travel to Griffin to face Southern Crescent, the lone GCAA opponent, at 3 pm. The winner will have the upper-hand in claiming the GCAA crown.
Prior to Saturday's key match-up, the Knights will travel to Oxford College of Emory. The Eagles are playing a club schedule this season and will not count as a conference game. Tip is set for 7 pm in Oxford.
One bright spot for the Knights in recent games has been the play of Mt. Zion-Jonesboro product Eriyana Mitchell. The 5-9 freshman center was recognized as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Co-Player of the Week, totaling 19 points and 10 rebounds in her two games. For the season, the Riverdale native is averaging 6.3 points and 4.4 rebounds.
